Acrylic on a wooden door

So, this was a piece in a larger series that I will be uploading over this week. I painted a series of doors that are meant as a counter argument against the growing tides of isolationism in the United States. Coming to this country is a difficult process for people to undergo, and I wanted to highlight the struggle and hardships people face when leaving one home to come to another. Each gateway that people go through to reach America is uniquely their own but somehow they all similar in how American they are. People have unique stories, but in the end each of us has a story as to how we came to live in this country. With these pieces I wanted to remind people of who we are underneath it all, while at the same time showing the struggles that people face. This is the common ground that I found between people who have been in this country and those we consider immigrants or outsiders. Reminding people of our common ground is the only way that we can accept each other as people instead of looking for our differences.

I apologize for the rough quality of the image itself, these paintings are quite hard to photograph and document properly.
